I was lucky enough to catch some of Luke's very earliest purposeful talking. So sweet.
Jack spells something...not sure what, but he'll come up and say, "Mommy, what does this spell?" and then proceed to string a bunch of random letters together. Thought maybe some of you brilliant people can figure it out.

Lovin those nephews of mine!
Funny thing is Jamie, I can remember doing the exact same thing as a child. I was so anxious to read. I was trying to unlock the mystery of the ABCs. I knew that the key to reading lay there.
Here's the thing. When I finally got the chance to read, I took off like a rocket. Seriously. By fourth grade I was reading at a second year in college level, results courtesy of the SRA reading program. It meant that I tested so high, I couldn't be part of the ordinary reading program, and so was allowed to spend that time reading whatever I wanted as the other kids worked. How I read! I read EVERYTHING. Literally anything I could get my hands on. My family never questioned what I was reading. I read stuff that was good for me, stuff that was bad for me. In the end, I've become a middle aged woman with an accepting nature, open to other opinions, able to talk about virtually anything. All that from a little girl who tried so hard to figure out how letters fit together.
I am sure that Jack's curiosity will lead him to great adventures. PS...one of the best things I did with my kids, besides reading to them, was putting them to bed and allowing them to argue me into staying up for another half hour to read quietly in bed. It soothed them. It gave them reading practice. It fulfilled their need to feel like they were getting away with something. What they didn't realize is that they were going to bed 1/2 hour early for years so that they could read. (If they were crankybutts, the extra half hour of sleep was good for them as well.
WAY TO GO, BOYS!!!!! Guess I'm KINDA "SLOW" sometimes, but today, as I was addressing ALL our GK's Halloween Cards, I REALIZED, for the 1st TIME, that ALL our boys' names have (only) 4 LETTERS IN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, our ONE GIRL GC has 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!--NEAT, huh??!!!!!!!!!
WAY TO GO, Debby, too--sounds like you were SMART even BEFORE you could READ & then THAT just added to your 'wisdom'--NEAT!!!!! & now, you're passing it all on to your kids--that's THE WAY it should be, AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVIN' & MISSIN' YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!
